ShapeShifter Presents "Telephone Show" at AVA Gallery 3/2-3/30 Opening 3/2, 5pm-8pm with live music by Jake Leonard
“ Telephone Show” is a art project/exhibition based on the childhood game, “Telephone.”The game starts where one child whispers a sentence, into the ear of another child, that child then whispers what they heard to another child, and so on.As the sentence is passed along it changes, some of the children want to make it more silly, some simply didn’t hear it correctly. By the time the sentence gets to the last child, it has become a completely different sentence.
“Telephone Show” project started with a mixed media photo piece by Claire Bloomfield. Another artist, Rylan Thompson took Claire’s piece and made his own work based on and inspired by Claire’s work. From there, Heath Montgomery created a piece inspired by Rylan Thompson’s piece and so on.
The artists were told to create a piece as close or as loose to the original as they so choose, as long as the piece is new and directly inspired by the one before it.They were given a time restraint of no more than three weeks. By the end of the duration, the project has finished with 23 artists, from all over the country with a special emphasis on the Chattanooga area these include Claire Bloomfield, Rylan Thompson, Heath Montgomery, Sue Fox, Damian James, Carrie Pendergass, Christine Bespalic-Davis, Amanda Brazier, Andrew Nigh, Sarah Noreen, Sean Whitaker, Lara Wolf, Maria Willison, Daniel Peterson, Eric Rivera, Mark Leamon, Sean Abrahams, Caitlin Frenchko, Myles Freeman, Matt Dutton, Dax Van Alton, Ashley Hamilton, and Taylor Turner
